Song introduced in February 2008

When God touched me a few years ago, the very first thing He did was to reveal Himself to me as my Father. I believe with all my heart that every Christian must know God as our personal Father. And that He longs for this relationship more than anything else.

Introducing 'My Father' written by Kelvin Lim, 1am this February 2008. Sing it and be changed!

Song introduced in January 2008

During the older days when worship was called 'singspiration', we used to know one of the popular Christian songs where all would move their hands to do the actions whenever they sing the song. Haha!

"From the rising of the sun to the going down of the same, the Lord's name is to be praised!" (ring the bell?)

Now we have the same song in today's music. I love this song and yes,
"From the rising of the sun 'til the sun goes down
Let the name f the Lord be praised
From the sky to the depths
From the east to the west
We give You praise"

The lyrics and song-structure can be simple at times, but so can worship. We started 2008 with the closing cut “Rising”, co-written by Baloche and Matt Redman from the title track “A Greater Song” (released 2006).

Special Feature - Amazing Grace (My Chains are Gone)

In 2007, we introduced a new 'old hymn' called "Amazing Grace (My Chains are Gone)".

It is the theme song for the motion picture 'Amazing Grace', autobiographies of one of the heroes: The idealist William Wilberforce maneuvers his way through Parliament in 19th century England, endeavoring to end the British transatlantic slave trade.

That's not all. There is a story behind this song too. Closing the album 'See the Morning' by Chris Tomlin is "Amazing Grace (My Chains are Gone)", a new rendition of the classic hymn. "I wasn't sure I wanted to mess with the most recognized hymn ever," Tomlin admits. But after researching the song, he discovered the famous John Newton hymn has withstood previous editors. Reviving an original verse (verse 4) that had lost popular favor over the years, combined with a new chorus co-written with Passion founder/director Louie Giglio, Tomlin rekindles a church standard for a new generation of worshipers.

New chorus
My chains are gone, I've been set free
My God, my Saviour has ransomed me
And like a flood His mercy reigns
Unending love, amazing grace

Original verse
The earth shall soon dissolve like snow
The sun forbear to shine
But God Who called me here below
Will be forever mine

Check out the following 2 videos (on godtube & youtube) too and find out how Chris came out with this song! Enjoy!

Songs introduced from Apr-Jun 2007

Everytime we introduce a new song, we would sing it continually for 3 weeks. This is simply to help our congregation learn and be familiar with the 'new' song. This was one of the major changes in the operation of our worship team which we all believe, a great system that works for us at this moment.

Testimony by William Wong

Come this March, it will be a dozen joyful year of serving the Lord as the “Man in the Booth”. Through serving Him in this area has built me up tremendously and I am able to use my gifting in the area of audio and video to help enhance the quality of service not only in the church, but to touch lives as well. As you see, media is a very powerful tool that can impact the lives of people whom we don’t even have a direct contact with, and I want to do just this, to bring Jesus into the hearts of people through the media. This year we have the Media Team just established and as the coordinator of the Media Team, I would like anyone who have liking for ‘wires, knobs, computers and shooting’ to join the team and together, so that we can build a great team and impact the world around us with the love of Jesus Christ! This is the only job with no prior experience required and the only qualification is a COMMITTED HEART to serve our great and wonderful God. All praise and glory be to Him, who sits on the throne.

William Wong, Media Team Coordinator

Testimony by Jessica Koroh

I came from an ordinary family. I have many siblings. From a tender age we were not taught any spiritual values as our parents did not know who Jesus was then.

When I was young I was fearful, timid and lack of confidence to face many matters. Whenever I wanted to go somewhere or do something in the presence of many people, I would cry although at home I was the toughest.

The most challenging time was when I was growing up. I had to learn to be independent by experience or own effort. At times I would cry for being angry, scared, felt isolated, ashamed and the worst of all I hated my own father. In my own understanding, he was the reason I had to go through all these. As a matter of fact when we were young, my father never appreciated any of us as daughters were a nuisance to him. Unfortunately out of the eight children he has, six are daughters.

In the late 80’s I came to know Jesus and accepted Him as my Lord and Saviour during a seminar on new life in the Spirit. At that time I felt something extraordinary even though I did not see Jesus but everything I saw then were bright and new. I was always longing for His presence in my life after that seminar. I could memorise the songs during the seminar without any effort on my part. I would sing these songs. Whenever I sang, I could feel Him sitting next to me although I did not have any Bible then. While singing these songs I was ministered to and I came to know the goodness of Lord Jesus.

Slowly I learned to become patient, calm, and hardworking and trust in the Lord Jesus although I cannot see these things. The Lord Jesus has prepared everything in my life through His church, friends, and workplace and taught me to accept and forgive my father.

Until now I could not deny that previously the songs I sang where an act of worship and offering that pleases the Lord Jesus. I believe and felt that every time I praise God, I will feel His presence and closeness in me. I want to make an offering to God in whatever form as I believe in Heaven is full of praises and dances for God.

If you want to learn more about worshipping God, learn from David in the book of Psalms.

Jessica Koroh, Singer

Testimony by Oscar Jefferson Chew

Well, my experience in the Worship Team was great. I used to have doubts whether I am good enough or what would people think about me. I believe these are all common fears that we all have. The first time I went into this Worship Team I was really discouraged and frustrated. The standards between Eklektos Worship Team and Abundant Life is really different. Not to say that Eklektos has low standards but the atmosphere is different. I wanted to quit Abundant Life Worship Team at first because of the pressures here and there but I really thank the worship Team and Sophia for setting the standard. It helps me to improve rapidly. Other than that, I would like to thank Deborah and Chris for being such great encouragement to me! I would like to encourage those who have the heart to serve, just serve! God has given us the gift so why not serve Him in return? Being in the Worship Team will not only increase your skills but also your spiritual level. I thought I was bad at first but I learn and kept on learning. And most important as Chris says it before we play every time on Sundays: Let’s have fun man!.... So whatchu waiting for?? JOIN US!

Testimony by Christopher Liew

GOD has always drawn me close to Him through Music!

I was deeply inspired by the awesome music led by Abundant Life Worship Team while I was among the congregations. With only basic knowledge in acoustic guitar, I dreamt to be a musician. Under God’s grace, He fulfilled my heart’s desires by leading me even further, to play an instrument that I have never played before ever in my life – the Electric Bass Guitar!

October 2006 was the first time I learnt to play the bass. By God’s anointing, He has ignited me the passion of playing the bass in the worship team until today. As a bassist, it enables me to be the pulse of God’s heart, providing and setting an environment of awesome praise and worship with the various dynamics and rhythms. This becomes a powerful bridge linking between heaven and hearts of God’s people in worship.

Being in the worship team teaches me more than a worship musician. I learnt teamwork, responsibility, organization and leadership. Most importantly, I have fun & fellowship being with the brothers and sisters who shares the same passion as me!

Our time on this journey is short. It is only right that with the gifts anointed to us by the Lord, to be given back to Him for His Kingdom in His Glory! It’s my joy and privilege to serve the Lord with the gifts He had given me. I am honored and happy to be used by God for His purpose!

The worship team has also been a platform of my spiritual growth, constantly drawing me close to God through music. How wonderful it is to grow in Christ and to make music of Praise at the same time! Only if we allow God to work in us, He will bring us places we’ve yet imagined. He did that to me and let’s sees where He will bring me next!

Testimony by Sophia Tsen

What God has given me musically, I have used it for His glory. In the Praise & Worship ministry, I have learned to serve God and to work together as a team. Through serving, I know more about God and myself, drawing closer to Him and experiencing His presence in my life. And He has added so much to my life! :)

Sophia Tsen, Keyboardist cum Music Team Leader

Testimony by Deborah Diane Tai

I have the privilege of joining worship team for 5 years now. I thank God for His wonderful ways of using me here. I have achieved higher heights, discovered untapped gifts and talents, experienced many breakthroughs in serving Him. When I started as a singer, I simply want to use my voice to worship God. I have enjoyed that until today. I’m always amazed and grateful of what God has done in my life in the worship team ministry. All glory to God!

Deborah Diane Tai, Worship Leader

Testimony by James Wong

Praise God for the privilege of serving Him in the Worship Ministry for over 33 years. Though singing is my passion and I definitely consider it a joy to serve in the Worship Ministry, no doubt it also requires a lot of time, effort, commitment and dedication to serve consistently and wholeheartedly. 1 Corinthians 15:58 reminds me to continue serving despite any circumstances I might be facing. It says “Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always giving yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labour in the Lord is not in vain.”

As I serve God, I have been blessed by Him. Besides growing closer to Him, He has blessed me with good health, a happy family and financial breakthrough. There are times when I am not so well physically – having flu or sore throat, He delivers me from my sickness when I persist in going to rehearsals to worship Him. Serving together with other brothers and sisters has made me enjoy and appreciate worshiping as a team – to lift up God’s name and not for one’s own glory.

I share all these and sincerely ask you to come and enjoy the blessings. Please prayerfully consider serving God in the Worship Ministry. You do not need to be super-talented, as long as you have a desire and passion to serve Him in this area. Training will be provided. God bless.

James Wong, Worship Leader cum Abundant Life Worship Team Coordinator
